#Metoo Plus the Church
As we're in the thick of gala planning to raise awareness for the need of women to heal from trauma as one of our goals. This weekend I'll be joined with other pastors and advocates in Portland, Oregon to discuss the #metoo movement and the church.
If you recall, the #metoo movement was birthed out of a solidarity of women raising their voices regarding sexual trauma they've experienced. Women often suffer alone when they experience abuse against their bodies. So the #metoo movement was both a tool to remind women they were not alone but it was also painful to see the sheer number of women crying out: #metoo.
The other shift that was birthed out of the #metoo movement was the #churchtoo movement. We often hear of traumatic events like sexual abuse as if they only occur outside of the context of the church.
But what happens when they occur within the walls of the church?
What happens when the men and women of God violate another’s trust, sense of innocence and body autonomy?
What happens when the strong and powerful harms one sexually within the walls of the church?
What can accountability as well as advocacy look like in the church.
This weekend we will meet at West Hills Covenant Church to start shaping what it means to be in a loving community together that does not harm but heals.
This is the heart of the work that ElevateHer does. Train women, leaders and communities on trauma so we can reimagine a community that flourishes together. Partner with us to continue our work to ensure that a beloved community isn't only a dream but a reality. Give today.
I will be preaching on Sunday morning following the conference. I will be sharing about the importance of my book especially for women who have been impacted by the #metoo and #churchtoo movement. If you have not preordered your copy, please get your copy today so this book can get into the hands of women and communities in need.
Would you pray for me and ElevateHer, for God to sustain us and show us the way even when there seems to be no way?
Thank you for your continued partnership to bring life-giving trauma healing to women around the world. We believe when we heal women, you heal the world. Connect with us on social media to get more timely updates.
